What It Means To ‘Position Yourself To Perform’ And Why It’s So Important For Anyone Aspiring To Be At Their Best
I use the phrase, ‘Position Yourself To Perform’ a lot in my coaching and it’s about empowering clients to believe in the control they have over how they feel and
perform.
Your ability to do your job and perform is directly impacted by what I call The Five Key Pillars of our Health and Performance (diet, exercise, sleep, down-time and productivity). The food you eat, amount you exercise, quality of your sleep and so on are all key contributors to you being at your best.
Imagine how much better you'd feel, the improvement in the quality of your performance and life in general if you optimised all
these areas.
If we look at a star quarterback in the NFL. The coaches will leave no stone unturned in ensuring they step on the field as well prepared as possible to produce their best performance. The level of detail is ridiculous, even down to the type of mattress they sleep on.
You might not be a star quarterback but if you aspire to get the best out of yourself you need to position yourself to perform too.
And it doesn’t need to be complex or take over your life. It’s simply about making small sustainable changes from where you are now. Incremental improvements within those five key pillars that put you in a position to do your job to the best of your ability.
A great place to start is by getting a benchmark of your current performance.
I'm a big believer in the power of metrics when
it comes to our health and performance. I have all new clients complete a 25-question Health & Performance Diagnostic which gives a percentage for each of the five pillars. It's crucial to identify where you are now and be able to demonstrate progress as you make changes.
To find out how you're currently performing you can complete The Health & Performance Scorecard which is a condensed version of the Diagnostic and will give you an overall score.
