The 5 Key Daily Habits That Help Me Manage My Mental Health
As this week is Mental Health Awareness Week I want to share the daily habits that provide me with structure, support and stability in my life when things are challenging.
“When the weather is really rough, what kind of foundations do you have holding you to the ground?”
These are my foundations that hold me to the ground when life gets tough:
🚶♂️Walking🚶♂️
📔 The Five Minute Journal 📔
🧘♂️ Meditation 🧘♂️
🏃♂️🏋️ Running/ working out 🏃♂️ 🏋️
🌳 Time in nature 🌳
I think of them as pillars and on tough days I like to visualise them literally holding me up. Still allowing me show up and perform as I need to.
And sure, there are days I’d still rather not do them.
When I can’t be bothered to go for a run. Doing a short meditation feels pointless. Scrolling on social media feels easier than getting outdoors and moving my body.
But then I remind myself its not about the habit itself. It’s how much I get from doing these things.
There have actually been moments where I’ve felt huge gratitude for these daily habits. Where I've recognised just how much they've helped me. And that's why I continue to do them each day.
I appreciate the fact that I GET TO do them.
Walking is amazing at shifting my mental state. It gives me headspace, clarity and a shift in perspective. The Five Minute Journal allows me to start each day with gratitude and end each day by appreciating positive things that have happened. Meditation helps me slow down my thoughts and be more present. Running and working-out give me structure, a challenge and a focus. And time in nature helps me feel calm and grounded.
What are the daily habits that hold you to the ground?
And if you don’t have any, what are the simple habits you could introduce?
